    hawkeye and Jeremy renner

Jeremy Renner seems destined to become the next big Hollywood star, and after his performance in THE HURT LOCKER, he definitely deserves it. Unfortunately, none of the major casting rumors involving the young actor seem to be panning out.

There was talk last month that he would be part of George Miller’s MAD MAX remake, but that deal seems to have fallen through. There were also rumors that Renner would be playing Captain America in Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, but when asked about the roll, the actor told Empire some interesting news.

“I don’t know if I’d be right for Captain America. I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.”

The bow ‘n’ arrow-wielding hero is not the best known of the Marvel characters and his power might seem a bit antiquated when compared to someone like Iron Man, who he’d be fighting side-by-side with in THE AVENGERS. If I were a supervillain, I’d be more afraid of Tony Stark’s punch than Hawkeye’s arrows.

I think the actor would be better suited to play a character as big as Captain America rather than Hawkeye. Of course, nothing is set in stone right now, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
