Joel Silver to produce SWAMP THING 3-D?
Joel Silver is a very busy man, producing the upcoming films WHITEOUT, NINJA ASSASSIN, and SHERLOCK HOLMES, and also has sixteen listed in development on IMDb. Well, Silver might be adding another project to his already large to do list.
The possibility of Silver doing a SWAMP THING movie was revealed when during a recent press conference for WHITEOUT, some one asked Silver if he would ever want to do a 3-D. Silver responded with “I’m developing a picture now that I’d like to do…I’ll hopefully do SWAMP THING, which is a movie we’ve had for a long time. We think that would be great to do in 3-D. There are a couple of projects I’m thinking about (for the format) but not everything.”
So, it looks like the SWAMP THING might be lurking on the big screen once again, only this time 3-D. SWAMP THING was first a comic book, then made into a feature film by Wes Craven back in the early eighties. There was even a SWAMP THING TV series which aired for three seasons on the USA network. The idea of SWAMP THING being reinvented is not surprising since the project already has monster name recognition, but this might not be a bad thing, as SWAMP THING could be a lot of fun in 3-D. Plus, a SWAMP THING remake makes visual sense given that there have been huge advances in special effects (namely CGI) since the original was made in 1982.
