Jon Hamm, Dianne Wiest, and Matt Lucas to join untitled bridesmaid comedy starring Kristen Wiig
The Kristen Wiig-driven bridesmaid comedy doesn't have a title yet, but it does have a great deal of talent attached so far. Last week, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, and Chris O'Dowd joined the cast. Today it was announced that Jon Hamm, Dianne Wiest, and Matt Lucas are all in talks to join the film.
The film will center on a maid of honor (Wiig) who finds herself in a competition for the bride's attention with another bridesmaid (Byrne). There is no word on what roles the other cast members will play at this time. I'm happy to see Jon Hamm in a comedic role. Best known for television roles, especially as Mad Men's Don Draper, Hamm is a frequent guest on many of the podcasts I listen to and he is quite funny and charming. Throw in his good looks and acting chops and you have quite the triple threat.
Comedian Matt Lucas also adds great depth to this cast. His work can be seen on Little Britain and most recently in Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Weist brings prestige to the cast, having won two Academy Awards in her long Hollywood career. I can't wait to hear more information about the roles these new additions will play.
Paul Feig is directing the film from a script co-written by Wiig and Annie Mumolo. Judd Apatow and Barry Mendel are producing the film.
The Untitled Kristen Wiig Project is expected to hit theaters on May 13, 2011.
