As of now, the third installment in the MEN IN BLACK franchise has been shrouded in mystery and it doesn’t look like that will be changing any time soon. All we know for sure at this point is that Etan Cohen, the guy who helped write the hilarious TROPIC THUNDER, is developing the screenplay for the third film.

Well now we have a bit more news on the movie. The blog Hero Complex, which is part of the LA Times, is reporting that Josh Brolin is rumored to join the ranks of the MEN IN BLACK. As to what role the actor would play, that seems to be up for debate.

According to the blog, “he could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K passing the baton to Brolin’s character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.” This offers some insight into what film’s producers need to decide: whether or not to keep Tommy Lee Jones in the franchise or to bring in some new blood.

His character already left the story once, only to be pulled out of retirement for the sequel, a move that always felt cheesy and forced to me. Retiring him completely and giving Will Smith, who is “expected to return,” someone new to play off of might not be such a bad idea.
