Judd Apatow talks ANCHORMAN 2
Good evening. I'm James Wallace and here's what happening in your movie world tonight.
When it comes to sequels and beloved Will Ferrell roles, rumors come and go like dust in the wind. ELF 2. OLD SCHOOL 2. ZOOLANDER 2. 2 BEWITCHED 2 BEWITCHING. All films starring Ferrell that have, at one time or another, had proposed sequels. Okay, that last one is just a personal fantasy of mine. Don't judge me. I don't need your judgment.
One that can truthfully be added to that list is ANCHORMAN 2, a potential follow-up to 2004's misadventures of Ron Burgundy and his channel 4 news team.
Writer/director Judd Apatow, who served as a producer on ANCHORMAN, recently gave Empire a few updates on what the future may have in store for Burgundy and Co. Check out what he had to say after the jump!
The uber producer stated that, while Ferrell and ANCHORMAN director Adam McKay are currently working together on the buddy cop comedy THE OTHER GUYS, ANCHORMAN 2 is “a little bit more a possibility than it was a year ago, when it wasn’t being discussed at all.”
Apatow went on to say that the idea of a sequel to the film has been long talked about between Ferrell and McKay, stating “when we made ANCHORMAN, Adam and Will had a lot of ideas about what the sequel would be – they’d always laugh about where they’d take the characters.”
So where exactly would they take the characters, noting that when we last left Burgundy, he had reached his dream of becoming a network anchor with his pirate hooker girlfriend/co-anchor at his side. Here's what Apatow had to say about that: “The great thing is, Will can be any age and play that character. Those anchormen sometimes have their jobs until they’re 75 years old. So we would always laugh that this movie could work if everybody’s really elderly.” adding "I hope we do it before that.”
