Kelly MacDonald signs on for HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2
Kelly MacDonald has announced in an interview with Vanity Fair that she will be seen in next summer's highly anticipated HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2. She will play Helena Ravenclaw, the Ravenclaw house ghost, a character who is known to Harry Potter enthusiasts as The Grey Lady. Fans of the Potter series had been speculating for a long while about who would play this small but pivotal role in the finale's payoff. She holds a key piece of information for Harry while he searches for Voldemort's horcruxes.
MacDonald first came into the public's consciousness with Danny Boyle's 1996 film, TRAINSPOTTING. She has become familiar with American audiences over the last few years, starring in the Coen Brothers' 2007Academy Award Best Picture, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, 2008's CHOKE, and Michael Keaton's 2008 directorial debut, THE MERRY GENTLEMAN. She currently stars in the HBO series, Boardwalk Empire, which was recently picked up for a second season. As much as I enjoyed NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, I'm always happier to see her in role where she doesn't have to lose her trademark Scottish accent.
Odd as it may seem, this could very well be the last notable casting announcement for a Harry Potter film that there will ever be.
