• Kung Fu Kid causes a stir

In a recent interview with 3 News, Jackie Chan dropped a little information about his upcoming KARATE KID remake. The Hong Kong action star said, “they don’t want to call it KARATE KID anymore, they want to call it KUNG FU KID.” The blurb lasted less than 3 seconds, but it’s caused a stir around the movie blogs. It seems, as usual, people don’t want their childhood movies messed with, but allow me to offer an opposing view.

First off, I didn’t grow up with KARATE KID. When I finally got around to seeing, I hated Ralph Macchio’s character. To me, he was such a jerk. I don’t have the emotional attachment that everyone else does, so I’m ok with the remake, especially if you have a legend like Jackie involved. Folks also seem to have a problem with the title change, but it makes total sense. Karate is a Japanese art, and Jackie is Chinese (thus the kung fu). I can’t wait to see what this project ends up looking like.
