Lars Von Trier’s ANTICHRIST locked in as a Criterion release?

Well, this would be a match made in heaven, at least.

Every so often, The Criterion Collection will release a newsletter, and along with it, a little, cryptic drawing about a possible upcoming release.  Today was no different, and at the very bottom of today’s newsletter, discussing what is getting released this month and is currently making a run in theaters for the company,  there was the picture that you can see directly above this post (I’m not going to ruin how that picture plays into ANTICHRIST for those who haven’t seen it).

Charming, right?

Well, along with the companies partnership with IFC, it appears as though the rumored (the geniuses over at the Criterion Cast hinted at this release back in December) release of Lars Von Trier’s recent shock masterpiece, ANTICHRIST, will be hitting DVD and possibly Blu-Ray with the Criterion “C” slapped right on the side of it. The film will hit this fall.

The film was arguably the most polarizing of any film of last year, and while many didn’t take to the film, I really dug it, and it’s one film that I think deserves a Criterion release.  His productions are always marred with insane stories, and the film is high on craft, so it will be truly intriguing to see how any of that comes to the release.  Criterion has always pumped out masterful DVD’s, so for a film so brilliantly crafted, this is a perfect fit.
