LAW ABIDING CITIZEN and more in this week’s DVD and Blu-ray releases
WHAT’S NEW & COOL THIS WEEK:
This week brings the release of the action/revenge flick LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to catch the film but from what I’ve heard, it was at least two times better than both P.S. I LOVE YOU and THE UGLY TRUTH. Also out this week is the 2009 SXSW favorite WOMEN IN TROUBLE, starring more pretty ladies than you can shake a stick at. Pun or no pun intended? That is the question.
Another festival favorite to check out would be CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER, which premiered at this past year’s Fantastic Fest. I think I speak for Chase and I when I saw this film is a bloody good time! As a side note, eating while watching this film? Not advised. Trust us on this! We speak from experience.
And for all you cinephiles, Criterion has released a whole mess of titles, both on Blu-ray and standard DVD. Original LADYKILLERS from 1955 with beautiful Blu transfer? Don’t mind if I do, gov’ner!
THE TITLE-O-THE WEEK I’LL BE RUSHING OUT TO BUY:
Continuing in this “favorites from festivals” theme, Sundance/CineVegas smash hit BLACK DYNAMITE is out this week and if I were you, I’d check this joint out! It is old school ’70s action meets nostalgic throwback to blaxploitation at its best. This ain’t no UNDERCOVER BROTHER, ya dig? This is the real deal, authentic to the core.
Don’t let the man keep you down. Check out BLACK DYNAMITE and help keep the smack out of orphanages! That is unless you want to have the rep as a jive ass turkey!
