  • Leonardo DiCaprio to produce AQUAMAN

After the success of THE DARK KNIGHT, I think Hollywood began to see previously unlikely A-list eyes set their sights on future potential comic book to film adaptations. Such is the case (it seems) with AQUAMAN, as Leo, along with his production company Appian Way, is set to produce DC's aquatic, seahorse-riding superhero. The film is still in the very early stages of pre-production, as WB is only taking pitches from writers at this point.

As I side note, I feel it important to point out something The Hollywood Reporter mentioned concerning the future of another SUPERMAN film. Here's what Warner Bros. Entertainment president Alan Horn had to say back in April:

"Our hope is to develop a Superman property and to try again. What hurt us is that the reviews and so on for the Superman movie did not get the kind of critical acclaim that Batman got, and we have other issues with Superman that concern us."

The issues I have with this statement that concern me is it shows just how ignorant WB is for not seeing RETURNS for the brilliant film it was! This being my opinion, I saw Singer's vision as beautifully approached and executed, including the perfect choice of Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel. You cannot compare SUPERMAN RETURNS to THE DARK KNIGHT, expecting them to elicit the same response from fans and filmgoers. They are two different films from two different directors about two different characters that operate in two different universes. Just because RETURNS was not DARK KNIGHT, which I agree with, does not make it any less of a great film in its own respect for its own reasons. What do you Whalers, out there in the Gordon and the Whale-i-verse think? SUPERMAN RETURNS. Love it? Hate it? Why or why not? Discuss!

I hated Superman Returns, found myself checking my watch and fighting to keep a fake interest for 2 1/2 hours. It had too much going on and no real substance, an action sequence is visually stimulating but not when it serves zero purpose.

However, Aquaman has some potential. I hope they cast Vinny Chase for the lead.

I guess DC will pull a Marvel and option every lame character they have in their repertoire.

Not to say that he is their worst, but he is certainly pretty lame. I'd rather see Marvel produce a Namor flick and beat them to it.

Superman Returns was good, not so much about what Superman can do, but what he represents. The film hit that spot on I think. A symbol of humanity, and all that junk.
