At the moment my mind is drawing a blank because I can't think of a really good live-action remake of a cartoon. All I can think of is GARFIELD, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, and ROCKY & BULLWINKLE, all of which were childhood favorites of mine and were ruined by a bad remake. Now, whether we like it or not, "Hong Kong Phooey," the story of "a police station janitor who becomes a dog with mystical powers," is getting the live-action treatment.

Director Alex Zamm, who also directed the straight-to-video INSPECTOR GADGET 2, will be at the helm. David Goodman is writing the script, which adds some legitimacy to the project since Goodman has also been a producer and writer for "Family Guy" and "Futurama." Unfortunately, I'm doubtful that we'll get anything witty or original. Instead I expect lots of toilet humor aimed at kids.

Technically, one of my favorite movies of all time is a cartoon live action remake, but it isn't one of those ones that combines 3D animation with live actors, it's just a live action overhaul.

George of the Jungle is a fantastic live action cartoon.

And I take back the bit about the 3D animation, Shep is almost completely digitized.
