Remember the days when Hollywood would take what was a creative and humorous plot with hilarious characters from “Saturday Night Live” and attempt to make a full-fledged film out of it, not realizing that the reason it was funny and creative in the first place was because it was meant to work in a 5 minute structure…not an hour and a half to two hour structure? While we all thought the days of said adaptations (i.e. LADIES’ MAN, NIGHT AT THE ROXBURY, SUPERSTAR, IT’S PAT) were unique to the 90s, it turns out that we were wrong.

According to Production Weekly’s Twitter, a big screen adaptation of the SNL sketch MACGRUBER is on its way, as filming begins next month in New Mexico. The film will be directed by the character’s creator, Jorma Taccone, with Will Forte reprising his role as the MacGyver-esque problem solver with personal issues. Funny sketch, horrible idea for a movie.

For those of you that have not seen his adventures, MacGruber, like MacGyver, always attempts to diffuse a bomb in a control room with everyday, household objects. Yet, unlike MacGyver, he always lets his various over-the-top personal issues distract him, causing the bomb to go off. Check out all the episodes here on HULU.

In celebration of this news, give us your best movie-about-bombs/movie-will-most-likely-bomb pun.
