MACHETE gets a Labor Day release
The Robert Rodriguez Mexploitation extravaganza MACHETE has secured a September 3rd release date. Placing the film over labor day weekend seems like a good fit with other genre pictures such as JEEPERS CREEPERS which previously performed well in the end of summer slot. After the decision to release the Tarantino/Rodriguez B movie homage GRINDHOUSE over Easter weekend - which undoubtedly hurt the films box office receipts - it's important that MACHETE gets a fair shake and has a real chance for success.
Obviously, this flick won't be for everyone but fans of the genre and actor Danny Trejo will come out in droves to see an over the top ode to '70s trash cinema directed by the man that made EL MARIACHI, DESPERADO and PLANET TERROR. During a set visit on the set of PREDATORS for Fangoria magazine back in December, Rodriguez was deep in the editing process for MACHETE. He promised some great moments of jaw-dropping bad-assery and said there's one scene in particular filled with so much gore it'll make KICK-ASS look G rated. See you at the movies.
