Marti Noxon, a consulting writer and consulting producer on the popular TV show “Mad Men,” will be writing the FRIGHT NIGHT remake for DreamWorks Studios.

At first glance, this seems to be a fairly surprising announcement, given the big differences between “Mad Men” and FRIGHT NIGHT. “Mad Men” is a well-acclaimed drama about an ad agency during the 1960s and the various people that work for it. FRIGHT NIGHT is a horror movie about a young man who realizes his neighbor is a vampire. However, Noxon also produced and wrote several episodes of the TV show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” I think you can see the connection.

Hiring Noxon is a very clever move by DreamWorks Studios. They get a writer that works on one of the most acclaimed shows currently airing, which will likely get the attention of many who would usually not take much interest in a 1980s horror remake. Plus, they get the fanboy appeal and credibility in getting someone that worked on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Well done, DreamWorks.
