Just two days ago, we brought you word that director Paul Greengrass had officially stepped away from the BOURNE franchise, releasing a statement that said, “My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge.” Well, it seems that Bourne himself Matt Damon is willing to hold out until Greengrass feels good about it, telling Collider, “I’ll just wait for him and when he wants to do one, we’ll do it.”

When Damon was asked if he would not return for a fourth film without Greengrass at the helm, Damon responded simply, “Yeah, I’ve always said that. But I think it will happen down the road. We just don’t have a script right now.”

So Damon says it is because they don’t have a script and Greengrass says it is because he feels called to move on to something else. Maybe this all breaks down to Greengrass deciding to return when they do, in fact, have a script that both he and Damon like, feeling then that that is a challenge suitable for him as a director and his talents.

Coincidentally, Greengrass’ next film is the very Bourne-esque GREEN ZONE about a soldier that goes rogue. The film stars Matt Damon.

People who want their share of bad directing mixed with not-believable-badassness from Matt Damon they can just go see Green Zone.
