MEAN GIRLS 2 happening – I repeat, MEAN GIRLS 2 happening
I’m not afraid to admit that there are a few fluffy movies that I cannot help but quote weekly. MEAN GIRLS is one of them (CLUELESS comes in a close second). My arsenal of mean retorts almost primarily consists of “you can’t sit with us!” so you’ll understand that this movie is dear to my heart. So let’s make a crappy sequel about it! Jeez, I feel like someone just told me I can’t ever wear hoop earrings again.
Our good friend Peter over at /Film found a very interesting press release for an open casting call today, which not only announces MEAN GIRLS 2, but gives us information on its director and plotline. The film will be produced by Paramount Famous Productions (straight-to-DVD ahoy!). it will be directed by Melanie Mayron, who has primarily worked in television before, including directing episodes of Dawson’s Creek, 90210, and In Treatment. Her previous feature work includes THE BABY-SITTERS CLUB and SLAP HER…SHE’S FRENCH. There’s no word on who has penned the script, but you can probably bet your last Kalteen bar that MEAN GIRLS scribe Tina Fey has got nothing to do with this business.
So what the heck is MEAN GIRLS 2 about? Find out, after the break.
“The story revolves around a new high school student, Jo, who agrees to befriend an outcast, Abby, at the urging of Abby’s wealthy father in exchange for paying all of Jo’s costs for the college of her dreams. Jo and Abby team up to take on the school’s ‘mean girls,’ the Plastics. The story becomes a high stakes battle of loyalty that ultimately comes to a head when one of our heroines finds out that her friendship has been bought and paid for.”
Uh, what? What does this have to do with MEAN GIRLS? A new generation of Plastics? Are any of these girls going to have hair full of secrets? Is Abby our new Janis Ian? You know what, just stop. This is a life ruiner, people. This is worse than Regina George.
If you think you have what it takes to sit at the Plastics’ table (hint: don’t wear sweatpants), check out the full casting call below.
Casting Director Bill Marinella, a 17-year industry veteran, announced today that he is in search of background talent for MEAN GIRLS 2, a Paramount Famous Productions release, shooting entirely in the Atlanta-area over the summer during July 2010.
