Like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly and emerging from its cocoon, Fritz Lang’s popular cinema classic METROPOLIS is about to be re-released to the public with some significant changes.  The original version of METROPOLIS has been chipped away at over time and now, with the help of Buenos Aires of all places, the original print has been found and is set to be revealed to the public on February 12th. The missing footage is rumored to contain valuable pieces of information that are crucial to the films overall understanding.

The film will be available to view streaming online via THIS shady German website! While watching the original version of this cinematic masterpiece online is not exactly the ideal way, I can’t help but feel excited.

Confession time. I have NOT seen METROPOLIS before (get your tomatoes ready for throwing). However, I suspect that many people have missed this classic over the years and the re-release of its original and complete version will give many people the chance to bathe in the shiny magic glow that is METROPLOIS. I could be wrong though. If that is the case, and I am the only person left alive who has not seen METROPOLIS, please hold on to your hate mail because come February 12th I will join the ranks of ”super awesome movie person” forever.

    • It's important to watch though there are a lot of bad versions out there. It's worth checking out the Moroder version which not only fills in plot gaps well it also includes a modern (for the 1980s) soundtrack.
