MGM releases iPhone soundboards for ARMY OF DARKNESS and more
I love me my iPhone and it seems as though apps are getting more and more creative. A perfect example is Smule's "I am T-Pain" app that appeared in the iTunes store a couple of weeks ago. The app lets you sing into your phone's microphone and your voice comes out auto-tuned. Just like T-Pain! Pretty freaking sweet.
Movie studios have also been getting into the action, but usually with crappy games you only play once. MGM is taking a slightly different approach for promoting their movies. Earlier this month they started releasing soundboard apps for some of their classic (and, at times, very quotable) films. Right now they only have five, including ARMY OF DARKNESS and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. The apps are free (except for the ROCKY app, which costs $0.99 for no apparent reason) to download, but are they worth it?
As you can see from the screenshot below, the apps contain 16 of the best quotes from each movie. Seriously, what would a SILENCE OF THE LAMBS soundboard be without the "It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again" soundbite?! Unfortunately, the apps function as little more than party tricks because it's not practical to use them during phone calls. By the time the program has launched the person who called has already hung up because it takes a while for it to start. The real purpose of these apps is to sell the movies on iTunes, which you can access by tapping the button on the bottom right. It's not perfect, but it's a start. Hopefully, more elaborate apps will follow from movie studios because I'm sick of the crappy games. Download them HERE.
