  • Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes looking to go into action films with HEATSEEKERS

Well, well, well.  Apparently a studio can’t live solely on horror remakes.

According to THR, Platinum Dunes, a.k.a. the guys behind every horror remake one can think of (NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, FRIDAY THE 13th, THE HITCHER, etc.) are set to jump into original action intellectual properties, with the upcoming film, HEATSEEKERS.

The studio has bought the screenplay written by George Mahaffey, and is compared to films like POINT BREAK and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS.  The film follows “a young ex-military pilot who infiltrates a gang of aerial ‘pirates’ working out of Bangkok and takes part in an elaborate tower heist using powered gliders and parachutes.”

What? So it’s a tower heist film featuring a gang of pirates who use powered gliders? This will either be a really fun action film (as it could very well be), or it will be the worst film ever made.  Either way, I’m super excited.  Only a company spearheaded by Michael Bay would come up with this type of idea.  I’ve dug the studio’s horror output, with the only exception really being THE HITCHER, so it will be interesting to see what the studio can do with something original.  At least it’s not a damn Ouija Board movie.
