With the film becoming one of the most hotly anticipated projects being set up over at WB, Ruben Fleischer’s upcoming film, GANGSTER SQUAD is slowly making its way into production.

In talking to MTV, Fleischer confirmed that not only are Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin set to lead this insanely hyped project, but that his 30 MINUTES OR LESS star Michael Pena will be joining the film’s cast as well.

The film is set in 1949 Los Angeles, and looks at a police group tasked with the job of stopping the influence of the East Coast mob in crime on their side of the U.S. The film is penned by Will Beall, and has been arguably one of the studio’s biggest projects in quite some time. Pena’s addition definitely makes the film all the more intriguing as he’s a massively gifted actor, and one who never stops impressing viewers.

Fleischer also confirmed that a ZOMBIELAND 2 was definitely being looked at as a possible GANGSTER follow-up, and 30 MINUTES star Aziz Ansari also revealed that he has two projects in the works, OLYMPIC-SIZED ASSHOLE with Danny McBride, and a new film, a space comedy involving “two disgraced astronauts” who “have to go back to the moon to clear their names.” Count me in for everything.
