• Mickey Rourke’s looking at the MONA LISA

Mickey Rourke has just signed on to star in yet another film. This time it’s a remake of the very highly regarded art house film, MONA LISA, which was directed by Neil Jordan (who directed a bunch of solid stuff that you should check out if you haven’t already).

Rourke will play the lead of a driver for a high class escort, that leads to unlikely relationship for both parties. A part that was played by Bob Hoskins (WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, DANNY THE DOG) in the original. Eva Green is rumored to be in talks to play the escort; which already is a key difference from the original as part that was played by a black actress in the first film, (and before the PC alarm goes off, the actress is british, and therefore I can’t use the term African American).

Larry Clarke the director of the gritty kids behaving badly films, KIDS, KEN PARK, and BULLY will direct the film. I’m curious to see how this will work as the original film had zero scenes of underage characters doing the physical stuff, which is pretty much what Clarke has become known for.

Rourke’s role is one I’m excited to see him play, as it will give him many chances to show off the talent he displayed recently in THE WRESTLER. if the film is true to its source material.
