We told you all, back in June, that Keira Knightley was being eyed for the lead role in a remake of the classic, MY FAIR LADY. She battled it out against another red-hot actress – Scarlett Johansson – in a attempt to win the opportunity to bring Eliza Doolittle to the big screen once again. Knightley auditioned for the role, and in order to gain an edge over her Scarlett competition, has been taking professional singing lessons. Well, it looks like all of Knightley’s hard work and patience has payed off, for she has been officially cast as Eliza, and will be saying her vowels in a wretched tone before she knows it.

Aside from casting, we have also tried to keep you up to date on who all will be the creative forces behind this film. For awhile, rumors were circulating that the very talented director, Danny Boyle, would be taking over the directing duties. Unfortunately, he had to pass on directing this project due to a much-too-busy schedule. With the director’s chair still vacant, that left room for another man with a load of talent to come on board. That man which I am speaking of is none other than Joe Wright.

As you might recall, Keira Knightley and Wright have an extremely successful history together in the film business. They both brought the world the two wonderful and critically acclaimed masterpieces, PRIDE & PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT. So I would say that this duo is all set to finish the hat-trick of success with a remake of MY FAIR LADY.

Emma Thompson (PRIDE & PREJUDICE and SENSE AND SENSIBILITY) has already written the script that has been said to be a more “realistic” take on the story. Don’t worry, though, asthe original score is said to be kept intact. So, until we have more news on this project to share with you all, go pop in your copy of the original, and sing along with the beautiful Audrey Hepburn, “All I want is a room somewhere…”
