    NBR Up in the Air

In case you have somehow blacked out, it’s awards season! Today’s big awards announcement are the results for the National Board of Review’s winners for the 2009 year in film. Every year, the board, consisting of film professionals, educators, historians, and students, picks their favorites in all the standard categories. The Board also does something a little different, too – they issue Top Ten or Five lists in a variety of areas, such as Top Ten Indies and Five Best Documentaries.

The Board’s nominees and winners often go on to Oscar glory – their last two Best Picture winners (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) both won the Best Picture Oscar for their respective years. That said, the National Board of Review has chosen Jason Reitman’s UP IN THE AIR as their Best Picture of 2009 (George Clooney also won for Best Actor, along with Anna Kendrick for Best Supporting Actress). Get your tux ready, Jason.

Hit the jump to see the full list of winners, including exciting news for THE HURT LOCKER’s Jeremy Renner, a little love for MOON’s Duncan Jones, and a couple of interesting ties.
