New details on SCREAM 4
After a few solid months of steady SCREAM 4 news (including casting confirmations for Courtney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette and Neve Campbell), we’ve finally got some real plotlines to report. Writer Kevin Williamson says that the “fourth one is an ensemble…It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters, and we’ll be introducing several more.”
Those “three main characters” are, of course, Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, Cox-Arquette’s Gale Weathers, and Arquette’s Dewey Riley. Beyond our original three, the film will also “[introduce] a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.” The “next three” being the planned trilogy of new SCREAM films, including 4 through 6 (Williamson is also currently working the script for SCREAM 5).
The new trilogy of SCREAM films will continue the franchise’s tradition of cleverly spoofing itself. Williamson confirms, “I guess I’ll just have to be very aware of the fact that we’re a ‘4′ and that we’re beating a dead dog. I’m going to make that very apparent in the dialogue.” The first three SCREAM films (particularly the first) were always incredibly funny and constantly winked at their own genre, while packing smart storylines and scares. I can only hope that the new SCREAM trilogy can bring those same traits to the table.
Any ideas for plots you’d like to see? Any casting ideas for the new SCREAM group?
