    THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON

We’re going to do things a little bit differently here. As I am currently covered in bruises (saddle sore from galloping through Arizona’s finest dry washes), confused about what time it is (one hour time difference, way to play it up), and jonesing for still MORE turkey, I cannot be expected to deliver on our normal Sunday routine. I cannot expect y’all to want to sit through it either. So we’re going to keep things clean, and we’re going to keep them simple.

Also, NEW MOON won everything, ever (again), but at least OLD DOGS didn’t crack the top three.

Your Official Thanksgiving Five-Day Weekend o’ 2009 Official Super Gobble Top Ten (It’s Official)

    1. NEW MOON – $65.9 million
    2. THE BLIND SIDE – $57.5 million
    3. 2012 – $25.5 million
    4. OLD DOGS – $24 million
    5. A CHRISTMAS CAROL – $22.5 million
    6. NINJA ASSASSIN – $21 million
    7. PLANET 51 – $13.9 million
    8. THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX – $9.5 million
    9. PRECIOUS – $9.4 million
    10. THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS – $2.2 million

What’s worth talking about here? Well, THE BLIND SIDE has now cracked the $100 million mark in just its second week. Sneak attack? You bet. While NEW MOON fell about 53% week from its first week blitz, THE BLIND SIDE sacked up and gained almost 69%. Break! (Am I using these football terms correctly?) Put your money on this one with, uhh, your bookie. Or something.

OLD DOGS only made it to fourth place. Walter Becker’s previous effort, WILD HOGS, easily made it to number one when it opened. In fact, with just over $39 million, WILD HOGS has the seventh highest opening weekend for the month of March. Oh, and also? Horrifyingly enough, Box Office Mojo puts it as its top earner in its Comedy – Road Trip genre. Ever. What will OLD DOGS be top of? Hopefully, the five dollar movie bin at Walmart, as early as next month.

NINJA ASSASSIN made it all the way to sixth place. Expect this ranking to fall dramatically next week when word gets out that this film has the misnomer of the year.

Disney’s THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG opened in only two theaters, but still pulled in over $1.1 million. Nice.

Other things happened, but I need to nap now. I hope each and every one of you precious GATW readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, and please know that I really am thankful for all of you and the rest of my GATW family.
