• New one-sheet for COUPLES RETREAT with a very questionable change

A international one-sheet has just been released for COUPLES RETREAT. It’s the basic design from the first poster, with the couples that are the focus of the movie standing in shallow water. However, there are some changes between the posters.

The most notable change is that the couple played by Faizon Love and Kali Hawk in the film is missing entirely from the new poster. This change seems foolish, since the film is about four couples dealing with couples counseling in a exotic location – it doesn’t makes sense to leave one off.

Also (and here is the really big thing about this alteration), this change could be taken as racist, as the only couple being excluded from the international poster happens to be the one that isn’t white. Although, you could argue that the Love/Hawk couple happens to be the one with the least amount of screen time (at least that is how the trailers make it look), so that is why they were excluded from the international poster, and are the farthest away in the original poster. It could all just be a coincidence and not racist at all, but I figured it need to be noted either way.

You can compare the two in larger versions after the jump.

    • Yeah, I thought about that, but Universal still should have known better. This could also be a silly marketing technique to get more people into the seats. Unlucky for them, this poster is JUST NOW generating buzz. Highly doubtful people will buy the DVD just to see how much screen time they have.
    • The first thing I thought of was yeah, it's racist, but it could also be that the other three couples have more face recognition; they're bigger names, and making them larger will make it easier to draw in crowds. But it's probably just racist.
    • You may have a point, but I think it has more to do with focusing on the "Internationally Known" stars of the film. Those being, Vaughn, Bateman, and Favreau. Notice that they brought Bateman, and Favreau up closer behind Vaughn and made everyone bigger? They are a step back though, as if to frame in the star couple.
