New poster for THE YOUNG VICTORIA
Emily Blunt’s first real marquee-topping film, THE YOUNG VICTORIA, has been making the festivals round for some time now. The film recently screened at Austin, New Orleans, Savannah, Mill Valley, closed the Toronto International with a gala screening, and is currently on the screening lists for Denver, St. Louis, and the Chicago International. It’s currently enjoying a healthy rating of 76% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, and though it’s been accused of historical inaccuracies, Blunt’s performance and the overall production design have repeatedly been identified as strong enough reasons to see the film.
The film charts the ascension of (young) Queen Victoria to the throne, including all sorts of political and personal drama. THE YOUNG VICTORIA also covers her enduring friendship with Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), which ultimately turned into a loving marriage, with the prince also becoming one of her must trusted allies even in government work. The new poster features both Victoria and (most of) Albert, with Blunt looking us squarely on. It’s a bit dreamy and sparkling, and I find myself adoring it.

The film will open in limited release on December 18.
