    Gwyneth Paltrow

Shana Feste’s LOVE DON’T LET ME DOWN has just assembled its principle cast. Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund, and Leighton Meester are all set to star in the “country singing drama.”

The film follows Hedlund’s character, “a young rising singer-songwriter who becomes involved with a fallen country singer played by Paltrow.” Hedlund and Paltrow then set out on a tour to get both of them in the spotlight, made all the more complicated by the fact that they are joined by Paltrow’s husband (McGraw), who is also her manager, along with Meester’s “beauty queen-turned-singer.” Romantic entanglements, complications, and probably lots of sad love songs ensue.

It’s not known as of yet who will be doing the actual singing in the film, but Paltrow previously did her own singing in DUETS. Maybe she’ll surprise all of us and go the Reese Witherspoon/WALK THE LINE route and break out some twang. Meester, of course, has her own album out right now, though it’s pretty far from country (she duets with Cobra Starship, not Willie Nelson, on it). McGraw’s character is not identified as a singer in his own right, but I’d be shocked if one of country’s own superstars didn’t get at least a song on the soundtrack.

LOVE DON’T LET ME DOWN is only Feste’s second directorial feature, and third written. She previously wrote and directed this year’s THE GREATEST, starring Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon, and Carey Mulligan. The film showed at numerous festivals but never got a full theatrical release.

Tobey Maguire and Jenno Topping are producing the film under Maguire Entertainment.

Production will kick off in Nashville this January.
