Peter Briggs and Jim Jacks join forces to make MORTIS REX
Many of you probably have no idea who those two men are that made their way into my news post title. Well, you might not know them, but I am positive you know some of the projects that they helped bring to fruition in the past. Peter Briggs, co-writer of the awesome supernatural comic adaptation, HELLBOY, and Jim Jacks, the producer behind the MUMMY franchise, THE JACKAL, and THE VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED, have teamed up to bring the world a fascinating supernatural action thriller titled MORTIS REX.
"What in the world is MORTIS REX?" I am so very glad you asked. MORTIS REX tells the story "of a disgraced Roman soldier who is given the chance to redeem himself when he investigates a spate of brutal murders." Though Briggs' credits up to this point only include writer and actor in one television episode, the man is aiming at broadening his horizons by directing this film. Jacks will stick to what he knows best, and produce.
This sounds like an interesting project with unlimited potential, but why Rome? Why supernatural Rome? Why not? Here is Jim Jack's explanation of interest:
“I’ve always been interested in Roman history in general and the dark myths surrounding the building of Hadrian’s Wall in particular... Mortis Rex’s uniquely original, blood chilling telling of the legend of the Lost Legion with a monster movie twist has the makings of a truly exciting and commercial movie that is sure to spark excitement from global audiences.”
That sounds phenomenal. Intandem Films is handling this project's overseas duties, and he expects a lot from this film.
“Peter Briggs is an exceptional craftsman who has created an amazing, terrifying world based on true fact and we are excited that he will direct a superb hi-end supernatural live-action film that will have worldwide appeal.”
Might as well shoot for high goals. Principal photography for MORTIS REX is already scheduled to begin in spring of next year. Locations include the UK, Italy, and Eastern Europe. I look forward to sharing more news with you all on MORTIS REX as more continues to surface.
