Photos from John Carpenter’s first film in 8 years
That’s right. Mr. Carpenter, a maestro of horror and thrillers, has been absent for far too long. Other than two shorts for the MASTERS OF HORROR series, his last feature film was 2001’s GHOST OF MARS, which featured Ice Cube, Jason Statham, and Foxy Brown facing off against an alien ghost who was very obviously a big Marilyn Manson fan. Needless to say, it was an underwhelming effort for the man who has brought us countless classics like HALLOWEEN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA amongst many others.
With that said, it is a pleasure to see these photos, which are the first images we are seeing from his new psychological thriller, THE WARD. The film stars Amber Heard as a young girl stuck in a mental institution along with four other young girls. She has no memory of her past life or how she came to be institutionalized. The terror takes a turn for the worse when the girl starts to be haunted by a violent ghost.
It sounds like just the simple, basic plot that Carpenter has the ability and potential to make into a great horror film. After all, he made fog scary. That’s more than Shyamalan can say for himself and wind.
Check out the photos after the jump to see said ghost!
