  • Punch added to cast of EARTHBOUND

    January 4th, 2010

I'm not gonna pretend that I didn't have to put the name Lucy Punch in the wonderful internet search engine known as IMDb to figure out who she was. Once there, I realized that she has been in movies such as GRINDHOUSE, ELLA ENCHANTED, and HOT FUZZ, the internet comedy show "Wainy Days," and made for television movies like THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS. So though Punch's name isn't immediately recognizable, you should be familiar with some of her work.

Then it all came flooding back that her name has appeared on casting announcements for the soon-to-be-released films DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER, YOUNG AMERICANS, and A GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY.

Adding more variety to her long list of upcoming projects (which are mainly comedies), the British actress has just been cast in the romantic drama EARTHBOUND, which stars Kate Hudson and Gael Garcia-Bernal. Punch will play the co-worker and best friend to Hudson's character, a woman who learns she is afflicted with cancer just as she is starting a relationship with a new man.

The film will be directed by Nicole Kassell, whose previous works include THE WOODSMAN. EARTHBOUND will start shooting this month  in Louisiana.

She looked really familiar but not from anything listed there. When I looked her up, I realized that I recognize her from “The Class,” one of the funniest, smartest, silliest SitComs I've seen in a while. It was canceled after one season, of course.

Her character killed a bunny with a stiletto heel while walking through a petting zoo doing a news broadcast.
