Ranking the HARRY POTTER films critically
Due to the very high praise that the latest Harry Potter film, HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, has been receiving from critics, I became curious to how all the Potter films rank with one another according to their critical acclaim.
So I went to Rotten Tomatoes and checked the “freshness” level of each POTTER film. For those of you who don’t know what Rotten Tomatoes does – it takes a bunch of critics’ reviews for a particular film and finds out the percentage of positive reviews, with that number being how “fresh” the movie is.
All the Potter films did very well with the critics according to Rotten Tomatoes, with the lowest score for any of the films being 77% fresh. I included HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE in the list as it currently has 102 reviews counted on rottentomatoes, which I consider to be a fair sample size. Now, without anymore NASA-level explanation I give you the critic rankings (according to rottentomatoes) of the HARRY POTTER films, going from worst to best.
6. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX 77%
5. HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE 78%
4. HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS 82%
3. HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE 88%
2. HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN 89%
1. HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE 95%
That’s right, the most recent POTTER flick is the most fresh of the POTTER films, a very good reason for everybody to have high hopes for this latest POTTER film. I have seen all of the HARRY POTTER films, and the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE certainly is a strong Potter outing deserving a ranking in the top, even though I personally would have given the top spot to GOBLET OF FIRE.
How does the list compare with your own personal rankings of the HARRY POTTER films?
