Rashida Jones’ “Frenemy of the State” set for the big screen

I’m not going to pretend that Rashida Jones isn’t one of my girl crushes. The fact that her dad is Quincy Jones was enough to endear her to me, but then she had to make it even better by becoming a breakout star on such shows as “The Office,” “Parks & Recreation,” and “Boston Public.” I wasn’t a big fan of I LOVE YOU, MAN, but that’s no fault of Rashida.
To add to her long list of accomplishments and reasons why she inspires nerd-boners everywhere, she is a comic book creator. How did I not know this? Producer Eric Gitter (Scott Glitter) and Imagine’s Brian Grazer have acquired the rights to “Frenemy of the State,” a comic book created by Jones. The series focuses on a wealthy heiress in her early 20s who works undercover for the CIA.
“She has lived a life of privilege, attended the best schools and learned every language, but her obsession with spying on exes gets her in trouble and she is recruited to be a spy in exchange for not going to prison,” Jones told Variety. “There is a comic element to it, this girl who is so conscious of social sanding and wearing the right shoes, suddenly becoming responsible for these dangerous, life-threatening missions.”
Jones will write the screenplay, along with writing partner Will McCormack, who previously collaborated with the actress on the rom-com CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER, which is currently in development.
