[REC] 3 and [REC] 4 get the greenlight
Forget about vampires and werewolves, zombies are here to stay! This is mostly due to the fact that they are nearly impossible to kill and, of recent, are able to run at full speed as they charge at you for a chance at your tasty, tasty brain-bits. Out of all the recent zombie flicks, [REC] stands out as one of the more fantastic films of the genre, so it seemed logical that [REC]2 would follow. Now, Spain's Filmax has greenlit two more [REC] films. Check out all the details after the jump...
Variety reported on the deal nabbed by the creative team behind the first two [REC] films. Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero will help form both films and split up the directing duties. [REC] 3 will be titled [REC] GENESIS and will explore the origins or the zombie virus and predate the first [REC] film.
[REC] 4 will be titled [REC] APOCALYPSE. Details on this film have not been released but I'd venture a guess that it'll be about the zombie apocalypse. Both Plaza and Balaguero are marking [REC] APOCALYPSE as the last film of the franchise. I certainly hope that this is true, as I would not like to see the beauty of these films diminish with too many returns (especially since I thought a sequel would be enough of a stretch). The beauty of the first [REC] was an unconventional take on the familiar genre, but now it feels a little like the franchise is slipping into cliched territory. We'll see soon enough as [REC] GENESIS is slated for a 2011 release.
What say you? Can't get enough of the [REC] zombie madness? Getting a headache just thinking about more brain-hungry [REC] films? Leave your thoughts below!
