    Scary Movie

Two questions come to mind when I read that headline. The first being the obvious,”does the world need yet another SCARY MOVIE?” and the follow-up being, “how does one exactly reboot a spoof? Do you just spoof the remakes of the films you spoofed the first time around? Or are you spoofing yourself…creating a spoof of a spoof?” These are likely the most existential questions you can ask yourself about a film series that has made millions of dollars out of what is people repeatedly running into things.

However, in Hollywood, where there’s a dollar bill, there’s a way. Our friends over at Cinema Blend are reporting that a “solid source close to the Weinstein Company” has informed them that the studio is looking to start over with the franchise, complete with a whole new set of characters. The film will likely come after the Weinstein’s release SCREAM 4, sometime in 2010. That way they have more new material to make unfunny.

I often wonder how these films keep getting made and, furthermore, who goes to see them? Let’s look at the numbers, shall we? SCARY MOVIE (2000) grossed $157,019,771 (US). SCARY MOVIE 2 (2001) grossed $71,308,997 (US). SCARY MOVIE 3 (2003) grossed $110,003,217 (US). SCARY MOVIE 4 (2006) grossed $90,710,620 (US). Now add all four of those amounts up and divide them by whatever number gives you 13 year old boys as audience members and you have the answer to your second question.
