Over the past few years, HBO, despite losing a lot of their storied TV series franchises, has become the place where filmmakers go to truly hone their craft.

The latest person to make the leap has been Todd Haynes who, thanks to BBC America (via The Playlist), has just seen the release of the second trailer for his upcoming five-part HBO mini-series, MILDRED PIERCE. And boy, does it look absolutely fantastic.

The series stars Kate Winslet in the lead role alongside Evan Rachel Wood, Guy Pearce, and the Oscar nominated Melissa Leo. Penned by Haynes and Jon Raymond (best known for his work with Kelly Reichardt), and you have a film that seems to ooze this very distinct and stately sense of style, something quite different from the Michael Curtiz-directed classic of which it is a remake. Check out the second trailer for the series after the break!

Based off of a novel by James M. Cain’s novel, the film follows Mildred and her ever-changing relationship with her daughter, Veda. Woods looks to be the series’ real star, stealing every moment of this trailer right from under her more than capable co-stars. All in all, this is one series I can’t wait to catch when it hits next month.
