Stephen King throws in his two cents on the CARRIE remake
Just last week, we got word that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had been hired to script a remake of the classic horror film CARRIE, based off the book by the legendary Stephen King. The project follows a long line of horror remakes that studios have decided to rehash, and thanks to MGM and Screen Gems that is set to happen with CARRIE.
But how does the writer of the book feel about the remake? Hit the break to see what Stephen King thinks about the project.
“I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and It. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg.”
This seems to go along with the general consensus about the project, it all depends on the actual production of the film. I do love the idea of either Lynch or Cronenberg in the director's chair, but that seems to be an unlikely occurrence. It'll be easier to judge the project once we actually get more info on it. Aguirre-Sacasa, however, is probably the best pick to write it, as it won't be his first time adapting a story by King. A couple of years ago, he adapted The Stand into a comic book for Marvel.
Hopefully the people behind the film can convince King otherwise.
