UPDATE: IFC Films has just announced that they have picked up the Ewan McGregor and Eva Green indie film, PERFECT SENSE.  Check out the trailer for the film HERE.  Also, Magnolia has picked up the rights to the film, I MELT WITH YOU, and Lionsgate has made another purchase, nabbing up DEVIL'S DOUBLE.

And the purchases keep coming.

First, The Weinstein Company continues their run of purchases at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and have nabbed the rights to the Jacob Aaron Estes film, THE DETAILS.  The films tars Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks and Laura Linney, and follows a couple as they deal with newly discovered issues within their relationship.

Sony Pictures Classics have also made another splash, and have picked up the US and Latin American distribution rights to the John Michael McDonagh film, THE GUARD, starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle.  The film follows “a local cop who begrudgingly assists an FBI agent who is chasing the members of an international drug smuggling ring that has taken up residence in the Irish town.” The film is written and directed by McDonagh and has been met with relatively solid buzz coming out of the festival. Read about even more acquisitions after the break.

Finally, Fox Searchlight has picked up the rights to another film, Mike Cahill's ANOTHER EARTH.  This joins HOMEWORK, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and the remake rights to THE BENGALI DETECTIVE as the studio’s big purchases this festival, and is another really interesting project.  The film follows “an MIT astrophysics student leans out her car window to glimpse a newly discovered planet and slams into a minivan and kills the family in it. After a prison stretch, she tries to gain closure by meeting the surviving father. The new planet also factors in to the drama.” You can read our review of the film here.
