SUPERMAN, starring Zachary Levi with Jonathan Nolan directing?
Only a few days after Andrew Garfield was officially announced as the new Spider-man, we started hearing rumors about who might take over the reigns for the new SUPERMAN reboot. Can't we have a few days to rest? It's not like anything concrete will be set for unveiling at this year's Comic-Con, but there's definitely some activity going on behind the scenes and we are going to report on it. Because we love you.
Studio sources (AKA spies) on the Warner Bros. lot recently told Geek Tyrant that Jonathan Nolan is the unannounced director for the new SUPERMAN movie. This would make sense, seeing that his brother Christopher Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT, INCEPTION) has been attached as the reboot's producer. Since Nolan has had great success with big budget fare over at Warner Bros., his guiding hand could make the studio feel comfortable in letting Jonathan - a first time director - take control of the franchise they have tried so hard to resurrect.
Apparently, auditions have also started, and Zachary Levi (Chuck) was up for a role in the film. One can only assume that they would cast Clark Kent, AKA Superman, first and build around the newly appointed golden boy. Levi as Clark Kent I can buy; Levi as Superman is downright laughable. Regardless of how much muscle he puts on, I'd be hard-pressed to name another actor that would be less believable as the man of steel.
At this point, the rumor that Jonathan Nolan is directing seems like the one to put stock in, and most likely it will be a few months before we find out who the real Supes will be.
