I’m sure there a lot of people out there understandably pumped for FANTASTIC MR. FOX. How could a (stop motion animated) film adapted from a beloved book featuring a voice cast that includes George Clooney, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, and Jason Schwartzman directed by the man who made RUSHMORE and THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS not be awesome? Judging by the buzz and reviews for the film, we thankfully won’t ever have to worry about that question.

Those of you read the above headline might wonder why the word “fantastic” is not used as usual. The answer…sometimes it is nice to use the pun, but sometimes it’s just as nice to stare the pun right in its punny face, say no thanks, and move on. It is also allows the opportunity to completely over-analyze the non-use of a pun to begin a news post, which is a win? Right?

Hyperbole is so often thrown around when people are promoting a film, and I try to not pay attention to such exaggerated claims. So what makes Jason Schwartzman’s opinion on FANTASTIC MR. FOX different? The man knows his Wes Anderson movies better than most. He’s acted in about half of Anderson’s films and even helped write the wonderful DARJEELING LIMITED a couple of years back. When asked by MTV how he rated FANTASTIC MR. FOX against Wes Anderson’s other movies, this is what he said:

Funny man Jason Segal, who last charmed audiences with his awesome dudeness in the bromance I LOVE YOU, MAN, has signed on to Jonah Hill and Max Winkler’s THE ADVENTURER’S HANDBOOK. This is great news for a comedy that I already have very high hopes for. Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman were already signed on to star as two of the film’s four main characters. With the addition of Segal, HANDBOOK is in need of only one more comic. THE ADVENTURER’S HANDBOOK is “about four 20-something guys, who inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book.” It won’t be for kids, though, as it’s set to “be an edgy, broad R-rated comedy.”

With everything that comes out the in way of FUNNY PEOPLE marketing, from the viral campaigns YO TEACH…! and RAAAAAAAANDY to the red band trailer, I get more and more excited for this Apatownian dramedy. Judd Apatow is the Judd Apatow of the film world. Don’t think about it. It makes sense. Just accept it.

A few weeks back, I brought you guys news of the hilarious viral campaign that had been rolled out for Judd Apatow’s upcoming dramedy FUNNY PEOPLE, featuring a faux website complete with video devoted to a sitcom entitled YO TEACH! The show stars Mark Taylor Jackson (Schwartzman’s character in FUNNY PEOPLE) as an inner city high school English professor that teaches prose before hoes. It’s CITY GUYS meets HALF NELSON.

I am extremely excited for Judd Apatow’s next directorial effort FUNNY PEOPLE. I am also extremely excited to see Jason Schwartzman in anything, let alone an Apatow film co-starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. Heck, I’m so excited I’d even watch Schwartzman ride a unicycle or serenade a girl 80s style with a toy keyboard or give an elderly whore a sponge bath. I’d even watch him masturbate to a doll made of hair. Oh wait…I can already watch him do all those things.
