While watching Turner Classic Movies’ video honoring the great talents we lost in 2008, it occurred to me what a tragic year it was. Think about it, the year began with the loss of Heath Ledger, which was followed by Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Paul Newman and many others.

If you’re a big Oscar watcher, like I am, then you’re familiar with videos like this one. Every year, The Academy compiles a list of the people we lost in the past year and puts it together into a montage. The difference between the two is that The Oscars is a TV show and they have to rush through everything to make their time limit, which they always exceed anyway. TCM’s montage really seems to take it’s time and is elegantly put together. One thing that Oscar’s montage will have, that TCM’s is missing is Eartha Kitt because the video was put together before her death on Christmas day. You can watch the video below.
