Terry Gilliam confirms that Robert Duvall is in and Johnny Depp is out for DON QUIXOTE
As our fearless leader Chase Whale would say, “I’ve got some good news and I’ve got some bad news.” The good news is that director Terry Gilliam has confirmed to our friends over at Cinema Blend that Robert Duvall would, in fact, be saddling up for Gilliam’s second go round at DON QUIXOTE as the imaginary invalid knight himself. The bad news is that Johnny Depp will not be playing sidekick to Duvall’s Quixote, as Gilliam says he is too busy “swashing and buckling and Tonto-ing,” referring to Depp’s previous commitments to another PIRATES film as well as THE LONE RANGER.
Gilliam, who referred to Duvall jokingly as “Mr. Blabbermouth Duvall” for spilling the beans last week, said that the film is up and running, so to speak. He went on to talk about the film and Duvall as the titular character.
“As Bobby says, we don’t have the money yet. I just think he’s phenomenal. I sent him the script, and he was so excited by it. I just thought, if I can get Robert Duvall talking as he was on the phone with that kind of excitement and energy and childish enthusiasm, I thought, this is going to be great. He does the tango. I just think he’s extraordinary.”
So, I guess that is one key thing down, with two to go to get this film moving in the right direction. Now if they can just drum up a Sancho Panza and about $40 million dollars…
