The Boat That Rocked has got some rockin’ posters.
When it comes to enjoyably pleasant and generally inoffensive British comedies, Richard Curtis is king. He's written several successful screenplays and is probably best known for writing and directing the instant holiday classic LOVE ACTUALLY, and now he's back with a movie that has definitely piqued my interest on cast and concept alone. THE BOAT THAT ROCKED features the very familiar faces of Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Rhys Ifans, and Nick Frost, as well as rising stars like Gemma Arterton, January Jones, and Rhys Darby. The movie is based on the United Kingdom pirate radio movement and follows Radio Rock, a rogue radio station based in the UK's North Sea, in order to illegally broadcast rock music to audiences of up to 25 million people. While the main poster doesn't reveal too much about the movie, the four additional posters each feature a single DJ from the Radio Rock crew and each one of them seems to be pretty eccentric. If the past is a predictor of the future, you can expect THE BOAT THAT ROCKED to be an interesting and instantly likable movie, full of wonderful characters and a solid story. So far there is no confirmed US release date (the May date on the poster is a UK release date) but we should be seeing it sometime in the Spring.
