The Class trailer

When I first read the premise of the French film THE CLASS a week ago it sounded like a cliche story that has been told a few times before: a professor teaches rough high school students in low income neighborhood. It’s been done most recently by Ryan Gosling in HALF NELSON and more notably by Glenn Ford in BLACKBOARD JUNGLE in the 60s. I hate to say it, but the trailer doesn’t really change my mind. In fact it just looks like a watered-down French version of the two aforementioned films, with literally not a speck of real drama in the trailer. This was selected as Palme d’Or at Cannes? I think the French have lost touch with reality. We will have to see if I am right when THE CLASS has its limited release in the USA starting December 25th of this year. See the trailer here.
