The Flaming Lips are working on a new film, hoping to snag Justin Timberlake for a role
Coming hot off the seven year process that was getting their first film, CHRISTMAS ON MARS, to some sort of a release, it looks like Wayne Coyne, front man of The Flaming Lips, isn’t at all afraid to get back into the filmmaking machine.
Coyne, in a recent interview with Billboard (via Pitchfork), said that he is already working on another film, “and this one might not even take as long.”
Let’s hope not.
The artist plans on filming the project in Oklahoma City, and is set in someone’s house, a backyard, and a slaughterhouse, instead of being shot on a space station-style set as MARS was. However as interesting as that may be, Coyne has some intriguing ideas for who he would like to cast in the film:
“I’m gonna try to get real actors, too, celebrities to show up and have fun with us for a couple of nights. I’m in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it; if I’m lucky I’ll be able to wear him down in another year.”
Awesome, right? Yeah, my thoughts exactly. While I am not a fan of Justin Timberlake really as an actor, the guy has had some interesting choices which wouldn’t make this casting decision totally out of question. Appearing films like BLACK SNAKE MOAN and SOUTHLAND TALES have shown that Timberlake isn’t afraid of doing some insane and off the wall stuff, which if MARS is any implication, will most likely be.
All in all, I really enjoyed CHRISTMAS ON MARS, and the Flaming Lips as a band are one of my favorites, so this is all music to my ears.
