THE HANGOVER sequel progress and info
Recently ROAD TRIP, OLD SCHOOL, and THE HANGOVER director Todd Phillips talked to Entertainment Weekly and gave them some interesting information in regards to THE HANGOVER sequel.
Phillips mentioned that he was thinking about a sequel even when THE HANGOVER was filming, and Warner Bros. wanted to do a sequel even before THE HANGOVER hit theaters, saying, “then once the movie tested so well, Warner Bros. came to me even before it was released and said, ‘Let’s do another one.’”
Also, Phillips is about “midway through working on the script for the HANGOVER sequel,” according to the article. This is encouraging progress by Phillips, who is actually shooting another comedy right now, with DUE DATE.
Phillips wouldn’t reveal much about the plot to the new HANGOVER film, but thankfully did mention it would include Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis’ characters, and that it wouldn’t be a regurgitation of THE HANGOVER. Phillips said, “what people loved about THE HANGOVER was not Las Vegas or the bachelor party but these three characters.”
Phillips also said, “I think you can take those characters and put them in other situations, and you don’t need the sell of Vegas and a bachelor party and all that other stuff.” He is right, at least for me. It is the characters that made THE HANGOVER so great, especially Galifianakis’ Alan. And it sounds like Phillips isn’t going to just remake the first film like some sequels, a revelation that makes me feel very good about THE HANGOVER sequel.
How about you? Like what you hear so far about THE HANGOVER sequel?
