    The Killer Inside Me

After watching the trailer for Michael Winterbottom's THE KILLER INSIDE ME, I can hardly contain my excitement for this film. Based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Jim Thompson (one of the definitive noir novels), and it tells the story of a sheriff in a small west Texas town, who happens to have sociopathic and murderous habits.

At nearly six minutes, this trailer seems to give away a great deal, but for those familiar with the book or the 1976 film, this is only the beginning.  THE KILLER INSIDE ME trailer is probably NSFW or suitable for small children. See it after the jump.

THE KILLER INSIDE ME stars Casey Affleck, Simon Baker, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Elias Koteas, Bill Pullman, and Ned Beatty.  I am most excited about Casey Affleck in this film. He has delivered some great performances recently, most notably as Robert Ford in THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD, for which he won an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

I can't wait to see this film — I've admired Thompson's novel for years. Great that it's being filmed in Oklahoma, the home he wrote about with such a dark sensibility. A new documentary shows how he started writing up that kind of Oklahoma character in the 1930s for a series of guidebooks, amazingly, funded by the federal government.
