Good news to any of you who are anxiously anticipating the theatrical release of ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL. The film has been officially moved up to December 23rd from its original Christmas Day date. No details were given on the change, but I can take a guess.

December 25th is a very busy day movie theaters because most every other business is closed and Americans need something to do. The film is lucky in that it won’t have much competition on the family-friendly front. The only other family film it will have competition from is THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, but that comes out on December 11th. My guess is that the date change was made so that it doesn’t get lost in the hullabaloo surrounding the releases of movies like SHERLOCK HOLMES and THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS.
