    Cinema Eye Honors Award

For the third consecutive year in a row, IndiePix (check out their groovy site HERE) will be presenting The Cinema Eye Awards. For the ones that aren’t familiar with the Cinema Eye awards, it’s a ceremony that showcases some of the best nonfiction filmmaking (documentaries) that traveled the film festival circuit over the last year. This year, 98 films were considered for the 2010 Cinema Eye Awards, and 78 of those received the most votes from the nominations committee. Two that I saw missing from the nominee list that holds 100% of my heart are BEST WORST MOVIE (left side) and WINNEBAGO MAN (right side).

To no surprise, Louie Psihoyos’ heartbreaking dolphin genocide documentary THE COVE took the most nominations, with a staggering seven. Their nominations include Production, Cinematography, Editing, Original Score, Debut Feature, and the top prize, Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking. THE COVE will be going up against BURMA VJ, FOOD, INC., and OCTOBER COUNTRY for the big prize.

The Cinema Eyes added a new category this year called “The Spotlight Award,” which recognizes films “that have not yet received the recognition that they deserve[d] in the United States.”

The Cinema Eye Awards will be taking place at the Times Center in New York City on January 15th, 2010. Check out the full list of categories and nominees that will have their Cinema Eye on the prize after the jump!

P.S. I tried to refrain from that pun, but it was inevitable. Please still be my friend.

I hope to see The Cove continue to win awards. It's an excellent documentary about an extremely important cause. I would be surprised if it didn't win an Oscar
