THOR casting continues, maybe adding two big names
Comic-based movies are on a roll. They invade theaters with their flashy effects, witty jokes, and heart-pounding action, and audiences just eat it all up. It’s a fact, Marvel movies make big bucks at the box office. So what is going to be the newest addition to the ever-expanding world of comic films? Kenneth Branagh’s THOR – and this film is doing it up right, like IRON MAN, compiling a great list of well-known actors to play great variety of well-known characters.
Chris Hemsworth has already been announced to be the title character, and Tom Hiddleston has been cast as the hero’s nemesis. Also cast is Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and possibly Brian Blessed as Odin. So who else could possibly be on board to join the cast? Check it out after the jump.
According to AICN, they have discovered through German GQ some inside casting information (I looked on the German GQ website to validate the story, but my lack in knowledge of the German language severely handicapped me). Apparently, actor Matthias Schweighöfer (VALKYRIE) spoke with the magazine, stating that he is up for a role in the upcoming comic adaptation, but that’s not all he disclosed. He claims that the talented Robert DeNiro and Jude Law are also already signed on for this project. What?
It’s kind of funny that no one has caught word of this casting addition until now. The folks over a Slash Film apparently have a person that can read some German, and who has also scanned German GQ’s website without finding any evidence of this story. However, the website does not provide most of the material available in their print magazines, therefore the story could have been purposely left off of the site.
So, if DeNiro and Law aren’t signed on to this project, than how could AICN get this so wrong? Well, Connelly at Slash has a theory. Both DeNiro and Law have appeared in previous films of director Kenneth Branagh (FRANKENSTEIN and SLEUTH), so it’s a possibility that AICN scanned the German story, and misunderstood what it was saying, “saying Schweighöfer was to join the ranks of Branagh stars alongside De Niro and Law.” I’m not sure. All we have to go on, until there is some solid proof on someone’s side, is speculation. Only time will tell if THOR will boast the names of Robert DeNiro and Jude Law.
If this casting rumor is true, who do you all think these folks could play?
